In March, ten members of our team spent half a day volunteering at Foodbank Queensland’s Townsville Distribution Centre, supporting their vital hamper‑packing program for families facing food insecurity across our region.

We were given this amazing opportunity thanks to our ongoing partnership with Foodbank Queensland, a relationship that allows us to directly contribute to the wellbeing of local families doing it tough.

The team arrived ready to help and quickly saw just how important this work is. Foodbank shared that in some local schools, up to 28% of students arrive without food to start their day. It was a powerful reminder of the very real challenges many families are experiencing right here in our community.

With that in mind, the team set themselves a challenge: to beat the previous record of 200 hampers packed in three hours. Once the work began, it was all hands on deck. Everyone found their rhythm, jumped in where needed, and kept going until the very last item was packed.

By the end of the session, the team had packed an incredible 339 hampers, smashing the previous record and providing enough nutritious meal kits to support 339 families. Foodbank shared their gratitude, noting that programs like this simply wouldn’t be possible without volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

Beyond the numbers, the day was a meaningful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together with purpose. It was teamwork in its truest form, and a chance to give back to a community that continues to support us.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, represented The Ville precinct with pride, and helped make a genuine difference. Foodbank has passed on a certificate of appreciation and a group photo from the day, and they’ve welcomed the team back anytime for another round of hamper packing.
Well done to all involved, an outstanding effort for an important cause.

This March, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our 2025 Leadership Excellence cohort. These emerging and current leaders spent the past eleven months building their capability, strengthening their confidence, and shaping the future of The Ville precinct through the way they show up every day.

Since the program began in 2023, Leadership Excellence has become one of our most valued development experiences. It offers practical tools, real conversations, honest reflection, and opportunities for personal and professional growth that can be applied immediately in the workplace. It has become a key pathway for developing talent across all departments.

Throughout the year, graduates participated in workshops focused on coaching, communication, people leadership, finance foundations, crisis negotiation, positive culture, recruitment, workplace wellbeing, team collaboration, and career development. They also explored their natural leadership tendencies through the D O P E Bird Personality Profiles and the 16 Personalities assessment. These tools helped participants understand how they lead, how they respond to pressure, and how they can better connect with others.

The 2025 cohort brought curiosity, energy, and a willingness to try new approaches. They embraced feedback, supported one another, and stretched beyond comfort. Their growth has already made a meaningful impact across their teams.

The graduation evening brought the year to life with reflections from cohort representatives, a keynote address from CEO Tim Richardson, and heartfelt speeches from graduates Jagat Herlambang and Ana Cristina Salas Dulanto. Peer nominated awards were also presented to recognise collaboration, development, and excellence throughout the program.

Please join us in a congratulations to our graduates:

To our 2025 Leadership Excellence graduates, congratulations. Thank you for your commitment, your courage, and your willingness to grow. Your leadership journey continues to evolve, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact you will create across our precinct.

Supporting local kids with Gorden Tallis on Palm Island

Our community partnership with Fuel for Schools is already making a real difference — and earlier this month it reached Palm Island with the help of proud local legend and NRL great Gorden Tallis.
Fuel for Schools, led by Operations Manager Paddy Pool, delivers practical support programs that help kids stay engaged, confident, and ready to learn. Thanks to our partnership, the team stayed at The Ville precinct before heading across to Palm Island for two big days of activities, mentoring sessions, and conversations with students.

Gorden joined the Fuel for Schools crew on the ground, giving his time to speak with local kids, run activities, and share stories about resilience, culture, and backing yourself. The team also distributed a large donation of Cowboys clothing provided by the Cowboys Leagues Club — a moment that created plenty of smiles.

This is just the beginning of our partnership with Fuel for Schools, and we’re proud to stand behind an organisation doing meaningful work for young people in our region, especially in remote communities.
We look forward to supporting the program further throughout 2026, starting with the Margaritaville event in May, where $1 from every margarita sold will be donated directly to Fuel for Schools.
Great work team your everyday efforts make partnerships like this possible.

Ronald & Harley Graduate from the Cowboys Dream, Believe, Achieve Program!

We are proud to celebrate two of our very own from the Casino Bars team — Ronald Walsh and Harley Brockie — who have successfully graduated from the Dream, Believe, Achieve (DBA) program!

The DBA program is a transformational community initiative delivered by the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Community Foundation. It supports participants to gain industry-recognised qualifications, practical work experience, mentoring and career-building skills, helping people overcome barriers and step confidently into employment pathways.

Ronald and Harley both completed their training with dedication and commitment, and this graduation marks a significant milestone in their careers. Pictured is Ronald with Adam Baillie MP, State Member for Townsville, and Luke Wakeman from Lite Haus International — one of the generous corporate sponsors — who presented each graduate with a refurbished laptop to support their ongoing professional development.

This achievement reflects not only their hard work and resilience but also the power of education, support and self-belief — truly embodying Excellence and the VIIBES Values.

Congratulations Ronald and Harley!

As we settle into the new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the tremendous effort each of you put into what was a very busy and often unpredictable festive season across The Ville precinct. From adapting to last‑minute changes to delivering exceptional service during our peak period, the dedication shown right across the precinct was impressive. Thank you for the professionalism, resilience, and teamwork that carried us through.

Looking ahead, I’m pleased to share that we have plenty to be excited about over the next few months.

I encourage you to take advantage of this while the offer is still open, it’s a great way to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy what our venues do best. Blackout periods and terms and conditions to apply.
  • We’re also gearing up for our Staff Party on Monday 16 March, hosted at TECC: So Fresh 90s–00s Edition. It will be a fantastic opportunity to come together, celebrate our team and enjoy a well‑deserved night of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you there. Tickets will launch shortly so make sure you RSVP.
  • This year also marks a major milestone for us; The Ville turns 40. It’s a significant moment in our history and a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come, as well as the exciting direction we’re heading. We’ll be sharing more about our celebrations and initiatives as the year unfolds.

The festive season is always one of the most energetic times across The Ville precinct, and this year was no exception. From shifting weather patterns and rapid event turnarounds to record-breaking guest numbers and impressive sales results, our teams showed remarkable resilience, collaboration, and dedication. As we look back on the past few weeks, we’re celebrating the highlights, the behind‑the‑scenes efforts, and the individual moments of teamwork that helped make this season a standout across our precinct.

The Ville Resort‑Casino

The festive period delivered strong performance across the property, driven by significant guest movement and exceptional team effort. From 24 December through to New Years Day, the team checked in 689 arrival rooms, welcoming 2,282 guests across the resort. On New Year’s Eve alone, following the rapid shift from The Lawns event to The Pavilion, the Front Desk team sold over 400 tickets, an incredible achievement delivered under tight timeframes and high demand.

Ardo

Ardo also delivered a strong holiday performance, welcoming 1,360 guests across 404 arrival rooms between 24 December and New Year’s Day.
This guest volume contributed to an impressive precinct‑wide result for one of the year’s busiest trading periods.

Gift Cards

December saw a huge surge in festive gifting across the precinct, with 1,269 gift cards sold. A strong finish to the year and a clear sign of the community’s appetite for The Ville precinct experiences.

Call Centre

Our Call Centre team delivered exceptional results throughout December, including:

  • 8,026 calls answered, supporting guests across the precinct during peak demand.
  • Over 820 room nights secured during Black Friday sales, a standout achievement that helped set the pace for a strong festive season.

Front Office Heroes:

Carina & Enzo step in and step up

When unexpected challenges hit on New Year’s Eve, two of our Front Office superstars, Carina and Enzo jumped in without hesitation.

With the NYE event shifting into The Pavilion at short notice, ticket sales needed a fast turnaround. Thanks to their quick thinking and willingness to jump in and willingness to jump in and support our business to deliver excellent service to our guests, we were able to sell 50% of all available tickets on the day of the event.

Their initiative and positivity helped ensure the rescheduled event was the success it deserved to be. A huge thank you to Carina and Enzo for embodying teamwork at its finest!

NYE All-Nighter
Keeping TECC safe, dry & event ready

Our Events Team delivered a masterclass in teamwork this New Year’s Eve.

After working at lightning speed to transform The Pavilion into an 800‑person NYE venue due to wild weather, the team didn’t call it a night when the music stopped.

Instead, armed with determination, they stayed overnight to make sure TECC stayed dry and the basketball court, one of our community’s key assets, remained safe from any storm damage.

Their commitment went far above and beyond, and their actions protected the venue, the guests, and the broader community.

From big numbers in guest arrivals and strong sales results to cross‑department teamwork and all‑hands‑on‑deck moments, this festive season showcased the dedication and capability of our people across The Ville precinct. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a smooth, successful, and memorable end to the year.

We are absolutely delighted to share some incredible news that fills us with pride, Marmor and Terasu have both been awarded Chef Hats by the Australian Good Food Guide for the second year running!

Even more exciting, Marmor has achieved the highest overall score in the Townsville region, a remarkable accomplishment that speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of our culinary team. Under the leadership of Head Chef Arie Prabowo, Marmor continues to deliver an elevated dining experience blending French and Japanese influences. Meanwhile, Terasu, guided by Head Chef Yukio Ozeki, brings modern Japanese artistry to life in every dish.

These awards are not just accolades – they are a reflection of the passion, creativity, and relentless pursuit of excellence that define our culture at Ardo and The Ville precinct.

Celebrating the recognition, Executive Chef Nicholas Redsell said the award was a proud moment for both the team and the region.

“The Chef’s Hat recognition from AGFG is a fantastic achievement not only for Ardo Hotel, but for the wider region. It reflects the passion, talent, and dedication of the entire team and reinforces our place on the culinary map.”
